Waikiki Family Photographer Searching for Magic
I don’t normally shoot at Magic Island, or really anywhere in Waikiki for that matter. Yes, there are great views of Diamond Head and the Waianae Mountains and it’s a lovely place to take in the sunset, but it’s crowded. There are people everywhere on bikes and scooters, running and lounging. There are huge, tented parties complete with bounce houses and BBQs. You never know quite what to expect. But this was a special exception. This family was leaving Hawaii and Ala Moana Beach Park was their special place. They love to come here early in the morning to stroll around the park, enjoy the views, and then jump in the ocean. So that was just what we planned for their special goodbye photo session.
About the Session
Surprisingly, the park was buzzing with activity when I arrived just before sunrise. We started our walk in the fresh morning air as a cool blue tinged the shadows. The twins were a little shy at first, but once we made it to the water, their personalities began to shy. One loves all things nature and we talked in depth about different lizards. The other is a goofball. The beloved class clown. Both love each other and their baby sister. They were quick to lend a hand – to keep her from falling or to simply make her laugh.
Water is her happy place. It was everyone’s happy place really. The boys took turns learning how to balance on the paddleboard while baby splashed away in the shallows with mom. A beautiful morning in Waikiki. It’s hard to say goodbye to your home, but i’m happy to send them off with some beautiful memories of their favorite place.
