Page 3 - What To Wear Guide | Family Style - 2021
P. 3
Do You Need This Guide?
I’ve waivered over what to include in this guide for years. I wor-
ried that a clothing guide would add stress to session planning.
As much as I hate to admit it, what you wear to your session does
make a difference. Over the years I’ve noticed what colors, tex-
tures, and fabrics photograph beautifully. I’ve seen how certain
colors and fabrics blend with the morning light creating a magical
feel or highlight the sense of joy and brightness in an image. At
the same time, I’ve noticed what clothing choices can distract or
negatively affect a session.
My hope is that this guide will ultimately reduce stress by giv-
ing you tools to put together outfits that are comfortable, flatter-
ing, cohesive, and, more importantly, match your style. However,
if you find this guide overwhelming, or have a specific idea that
doesn’t match what’s listed, close this guide and wear exactly
what you want wear.
Where to Start?
Dressing the family for a photo session is your prime time to be
selfish. Yes, the kids are adorable and fun to dress, but I want
you to start with yourself. Find something you love, something
that you feel good in. Once you know you will look and feel good,
coordinate everyone around what you’re wearing. Seriously, focus
on yourself.
Should your goal be to match? Not unless you really, really want
to. By using colors that coordinate and matching your style of
clothing, your family will look good together. Choosing matching
outfits or a limited set of colors makes it look like you’re wearing
a photo session uniform.
