Ten year anniversaries are to be celebrated with aluminum or diamonds, depending on if you’re a traditionalist or modernist. I’m not entirely sure what type of aluminum products people are gifting. A can of beer perhaps? In any case, Kerri and Michael had their own take on how to celebrate 10 years together – a trip to Hawaii. They didn’t want any fuss. Just a simple exchange of vows at sunrise. I like their style.
We met at Laie Beach Park as a brisk wind whipped through our hair. The baby wanted nothing to do with this chilly morning and much preferred a nap in the car. His older siblings, on the other hand, we’re ready to jump into the water. Their feet danced in the sand as if the water was pulling them closer.
We spent time exploring every inch the beach including most of the sticks. Maybe too much fun because by the time everyone changed into swimsuits, they were fully exhausted. Mom was tired, kids were beat. It was only dad who seemed to come alive in the surf. Next time, guys.
Why Family Films?
A client recently remarked that although she loved the idea of a family film, she wasn’t entirely sure what to do with one. That made me think about what family films mean to me. A family film is similar to flipping through a photo album, only intensified. It’s like having thousands of images in condensed form flooding your senses with memory and emotion. They’re amazingly effective at transporting you back in time.
I feel like this session does a great job of showcasing how film and photos translate the same scene. One is not inherently better than they other. They’re merely different. And together, they have the power to pause time and tell your story.
You can view their mini film below.
