The family that travels together
Sure families typically love each other, but like each other? Like each other enough to go on a big Hawaiian vacation together? That feels special. Something akin to a glitter dipped unicorn. I’m always excited to have one of these groups in front of my lens (nervous and sweaty, but excited). I could feel those nerves dancing as the group poured out of several cars in the Paradise Cove parking lot. Sixteen people in all; eight of them young children.
Embrace the chaos
Different personalities quickly became evident amid the chaos (and I mean chaos in the best way possible). They were wild, sweet, kind, reserved, maternal, silly, shy and they were the best of friends. There was an overall closeness. Everywhere aunties and uncles were lending a hand, tossing kids into the air, and exploring together. It was as if the individual families fell away leaving one big, close-knit family.
The sun beat down by the end of the session and the vivid blue water beckoned. Fortunately, they brought their swimsuits. No need to make the kids “wait until we’re back at the hotel.” In we jumped turning the perfectly still cove into a whirlpool with our splashing and running. My poor assistant was almost late to her Christmas party because she couldn’t drag me away.
