A family of boys
They were a family of four when we first met. It was a time of transition as they had just graduated and were preparing for a big move east. After years in an intense surgical residency and adding another baby boy to the family, they found their way back to Hawaii. They were in dire need of a vacation. And Aulani family portraits were a must.
A morning in Paradise
Since they were staying at Disney’s Aulani Resort, we decided to meet at the nearby, kid friendly Paradise Cove Beach. I met them amidst a bit of chaos. Tears were flowing and the boys were trying to go in all different directions. They were still struggling a bit after a 20(!) hour trip from Ontario, Canada, but quickly they fell in love with the cove and began to explore.
Each of the boys has a unique personality and they found their own place in the cove. Parker fell in love with hermit crabs. He trapped three tiny crabs in his hand and named them “Brothers”. The brothers were carefully tended by the water’s edge with reports on their antics. He begged to bring them back to Canada. Kellan wasn’t interested in the crabs because he had discovered rocks. Big rocks. He hauled an exceptionally large rock around with him for at least an hour. Occasionally, he would throw it into the water for a dramatic splash and pick it up again. He would not be distracted. Jake, the littlest, was content to splash in the tide pools and lick the occasional bit of coral. They could all agree on one thing though – they loved the water. They raced along the shore splashing and played a wild game of inter-tube bumper cars. It was a good morning to be a kid.
