All in a name
Mila wasn’t a common name. In fact, when we named our daughter Mila we weren’t entirely sure it was a name. Someone shared the name on a baby board and even though I couldn’t find much information about the origin or meaning of the name (other than Mila Kunis the actress which is a shortened form of the slavic, Ludmila), it stuck with me. That’s why it was extra special when Mila jumped into my arms at school pickup and excitedly told me she made a new friend named Mila. From then on, they were the best of friends. I would often overhear them on the playground speaking “Mila”. Mila’s twin brother would often join in on the fun and they would all be silly together.
Leaving Oahu
It was hard to hear that their time in Hawaii was coming to an end. My Mila cried big fat tears when she heard the news. The downside of living in a dense military community is that you lose your friends every three to four years. They weren’t excited to leave behind our tight-knit beach community either and scheduled a family photo session to document this special time in their lives. In the chaos of their big, international move, we managed to fit in one afternoon to relax and play on their favorite beach in Kailua. We played hard and laughed harder. It was a beautiful way to send them off onto new adventures.
Is your time in Hawaii limited?
Hawaii is such a transient place. If you’re lucky enough to call it home for a week or a few years you should make the most of it. Let’s plan a fun day together so you can take tangible memories of salty hair and sandy toes with you. Find out more about my fun family photography sessions here.
