A Delayed Adventure
The plan was a sweet 16 birthday trip to Hawaii complete with photo session, but Hurricane Harvey had other plans for this Houston family. Their house was spared, but their trip was not. After the flood waters receded, they began to plan again. This time, it would be a family trip to Hawaii and senior portraits.
Stormy skies ahead
Adriana was torn between the dramatic, rocky coastline of Makapuu and the lush green of Laie. So we did both. We started the morning at Makapuu Beach with the sun rising heavy over the ocean. It’s been a rainy year with stormy weather continuing well into summer. The rain followed us on our drive south to Makapuu so we were relieved to see the sun peeking over the horizon. Wind whipped through our hair and left salt crystals on our eyelashes, but we happily soaked in the scenery.
Rain continued to be our theme for the day and large drops escorted us back home. The plan was to meet gain the same evening in the sea of green that is Laie. Rain continued to fall as I made my up the coast to Laie Beach Park. Again I was nervous, but the rain slowed and eventually stopped just before our session. We ended the day as perfectly as it started, splashing along the shore and enjoying time together as a family.
Hawaii is a stunning backdrop for high school senior portraits
