Sunrise over Laie Beach Park
A pink sunrise welcomed us to the beach on that summer morning. It was the type of morning that makes you happy you set your alarm clock and wonder why you don’t do it more often. The kids were unfazed by the early hour and made a beeline for the beach. They delighted in the cool sand and were drawn closer and closer to the water. Laughter filled the air between sun rays. And then it happened – a man-o-war sting. One lone man-o-war on the beach and we happened to stumble upon it. There wasn’t much to be done other than remove the tentacles, rinse with seawater, and wait it out in the comfort of mom’s arms.
Beach Day: Take 2
Although that tiny bluish-purple balloon animal set us back, the kids rebounded with enthusiasm. They were happy to dig in the sand, tell jokes, and eventually, jump back in the water. It was warm and inviting banishing all thoughts of the earlier sting. The waves were big (at least when you’re toddler-sized). Feeling braver, they crept out further and further screaming in delight as walls of water crashed all around. A beautiful beach morning to be remembered.
