What is it about baby curls that makes them irresistibly cute? By some force of biology, I find baby talk spewing from my mouth in a voice a full octave higher. It’s some sort of cuteness trigger that I can’t control. The cuteness didn’t stop with the curls, this little guy was also super expressive. You could see a range of emotions flash across his face and we explored the little beach at Paradise Cove. Before their trip, Lauren had visions of them playing together as a family in the sand – making little sand castles and splashing in the shallows. The reality was that Truman hated the sand. They plopped him onto the sand the day they arrived and he fully shrieked in horror. This baby is no screamer. He is mellow, happy, easy, but the sand … hated it.
After a few days in Hawaii they were hoping his reaction would lessen, but not so much. Over the course of the morning, we experimented with what Truman was comfortable with. He would look at the sand warily if his parents sat down and he got too close to touching the stuff, but it was tolerable. Want to make this happy, easy-going baby scream? Simply let his toe graze the sand. Same goes for rocks. And water was questionable at best. If the water was deep, it was okay, but any chance he could touch the sandy bottom and it was no deal. We all laughed hard that morning. Now, this isn’t to say that we engaged in baby torture. His moments of unhappiness were brief but I couldn’t help capture him red-faced, wagging an approving finger at us.
On the last day of their trip he was willing to take a couple steps in the sand. Big progress :)
