Leaving Hawaii
Oahu is such a transient place. Not everyone falls in love with the sunshine, but for those who do it can be heartbreaking to leave. I feel for those families and they always end up being some of my favorite photo sessions. I love to send them off with a beautiful story of their time here. Plus I like the think tropical beach images in your home keep you warm on cold days. At least it works for me when it reaches a bone-chilling 60F in Kailua. And yes, I am a weather wimp.
Memories of Home
Rachael and her family were being deployed after 3 years on the island and they were definitely in the heartbreak camp. They had made a home in Pearl Harbor and wanted to use their favorite spots as a backdrop for their session. We started at a fantastic park with views of the harbor and their old neighborhood.
Closer to sunset, we headed to Hickam dog beach. Maybe it’s not the typical spot for a photo session, but there is just something I love about it. Plus it great for curious kids who want to poke around in the shallows to catch fish and crabs. Plus there are jets flying overhead and big ships going out to sea.
Does your time on Oahu have an expiration date?
