There’s more to Hawaii than swaying palm trees and ocean waves lapping at your toes. Oh yeah, that stuff is mighty fine. I won’t deny that, but there’s a greener side to Hawaii that shouldn’t be ignored. Hawaii’s parks are full of jungle-y goodness. Lichens and ferns drip from overhead branches. Roots extend from the air, inviting you for a swing, tarzan-style. Oversized leaves are just begging for a game of hide and seek and the sun filtering through the canopy makes it all the more magical. It’s a place you can’t help but explore. So explore we did.
I photographed Summer and her family last year near their temporary, but beloved home in Koolina. They were on Oahu for a working vacation (I love those!) and were fortunate to do the same this year. Since we were able to swim with sea turtles during our last session, it didn’t seem like we could top that. We headed inland instead to my favorite park on the island, Nuuanu Valley Park. The boys delighted in exploring every nook and cranny in the park and left with plans to come back as soon as possible.
