When Kitchie reached out for a photo session, I remembered her family immediately. My memory isn’t the best so I knew they left an impression. I first photographed them some five years earlier on Waimanalo Beach. At the time, they were a family of three with a pudgy baby. The vision that popped into my head when they reached out was the baby’s chubby little legs as she sat astride her dad’s wide shoulders. She wore a solemn expression with a floral haku lei balanced on her head.
Now, they were returning as a family of four. That baby had transformed into a charismatic fun-loving little girl while her little brother took the role of solemn chubby-legged baby. Even though it had been 5 years, it felt like seeing old friends. We met for sunrise at family-friendly Kalama Beach Park. It’s a personal favorite for baby and toddler photo sessions because it’s easy to access and has both a beach and park. Not all baby’s are comfortable at the beach and it makes a nice break from the sun and wind. We spent the morning laughing and chasing waves (and chickens!) until it was far past nap time. It was a fun morning and I look forward to the next time.
A trip to Hawaii is the perfect excuse to update your family photos.
