I was visiting family in Holland when I received Julie’s inquiry. The way she described her family was touching and it was clear just how important photos were to her. I scrambled to navigate major time differences and technological glitches to get her on the phone and start planning. We talked about how they spend a typical day and I was super excited that it involved golf carts. They live in the little neighborhood at Koolina where it’s common to find golf carts parked alongside cars in the driveways. Yes, you can use them for golfing, but more importantly, you can throw in some towels and head to your favorite beach. Their favorite spot is Kahe Point which is inaccessible by car and a bit of a long walk. They like to set out a picnic blanket, let their dog explore, and take in the incredible views.
I hopped on the back of their golf cart early on a Saturday morning. Baby Julian was all smiles on the ride over. He waved his hands excitedly and blew split bubbles as he took in the surroundings. The fresh ocean air was intoxicating. Our adventure didn’t last long however. A wall of rain quickly advancing on the horizon sent us scurrying for cover. Take II. We rescheduled for two months later and had the exact same weather. Surprising for this normally sunny coastline. It was amazing to see how much Julius had changed in such a short time. His chubby-cheeked, round faced had transformed into that of a little boys. Not fully of course, but you could clearly see the little boy he would soon become. I was happy to catch that transformation.
