Adapting to Island Life
Liz and her family were only able to call Hawaii home for a single year. They are a military family living on the marine corp base and instead of the more common three or four year station, they had orders for only one. Maybe it was because they knew their time was limited, but this family adapted quickly easily to island life.
In fact, they scheduled a photo session at Nuuanu Valley Park shortly after they arrived. Even though they were still staying in a hotel waiting for their things to arrive, they wanted to explore the island and take in as much as possible. Over the months, they spent many weekends with wind in their hair and sand beneath their toes. The girls became comfortable with the waves and learned to body board. The beach was their happy place.
Aloha Hawaii
As their island time began to dwindle, we scheduled another photo session to bookend their stay. This time, at their favorite place – Kalama Beach Park in Kailua. They were noticeably more tan and relaxed then our first meeting. Whether crawling through jungle vegetation in search of flowers or jumping waves at the shore, the girls clearly felt at home. We spent one of their last precious evenings on Oahu climbing trees and playing in the surf while the sun warmed our backs. I know it’s hard to leave, but how lovely to take these warm, sweet memories of a place so near to their hearts? Come back soon my friends.
