Their house was both new and old. It had been a beloved childhood home on the sun scorched Waianae coast. After many years and adventures away from Hawaii he was returning to live there once again; this time with a new family in tow. The house was in a state of transition with remnants of his former life mixing with the new. But at the top of the stairs, in the back of the house was a new, sun-dappled nursery. There I caught my first glimpse of baby Delaney as a gentle mountain breeze carried birdsong through the window tickling her outstretched toes.
We spent a peaceful afternoon together gazing at this tiny, perfect human. It’s almost as if babies cast a spell where you can’t look away. I knew I had a particular shot, but couldn’t put the camera down. “Just one more picture. Okay, maybe one more. Now this is really the last one. Click. Click …”
