I met Nicole at the Baby aWEARness fiesta awhile back. She just started a great website that details all the fun kids activities on Oahu called Hawaii Kids Calendar. We started talking and came up with this … dare I say, brilliant, idea for a fun photography project (more about that later). We wanted to talk, so we gathered up the kids and headed to Baby Makapuu for one of my favorite Oahu activities for kids. A pretty fabulous office I must say.
Toddler-sized Tide Pools
This was my first time at this end of the beach. Normally, we explore the tide pools closer to Makapuu Beach near the entrance to Sea Life Park. This side (near the exit of Sea Life Park) was less tidpool-y; more like mini, protected swimming pools with sandy bottoms that were absolutely perfect for kids. Throw in some sheer cliffs and a handful of offshore islets and it made for a spectacular setting. We weren’t the only ones to think so. A nice plump monk seal shared our afternoon. Although, we got little more than a butt view from the beach. Endangered species can be so rude.
The kids became fast friends, but we got approximately … zero work done. I guess we’ll just have to go back. As for you, head over and bookmark Hawaii Kids Calendar. It’s a great resource if you’re ever stumped for kid entertainment!
Looking for More Family Activities in the Area?
Hike up to the Makapuu lighthouse you see in the background. It’s an easy, paved path and a great way to spot whales in the winter. Check out the Keiki Monday archives for more ideas about Oahu activities for kids. Beaches, hikes, parks – get off the beaten path and go on an adventure!
Aloha! Beautiful site!! And what a great beach!
I just found you thru Nicole…So glad I did. :)
Hopefully we can connect one day as well–I never knew there were so many fellow bloggers on this little island! ;)
Thanks so much Monica! I only know a couple of local bloggers, so i’m happy to check out your site!
