An Oahu Christmas Tree Experience
We’ve been content with our fake Target Christmas tree for the past few years, but decided to try something new this year. One of my wonderful clients told me how much fun they had picking out a an Oahu Christmas tree at Helemano Farms in Wahiawa, so we decided to go for it. The Norfolk Pine may not be the most glamorous of Christmas trees, but it has character and it sounded like a fun adventure; something that could become a Christmas tradition. Plus it’s local (no need to worry about all those pests that hitchhike to Hawaii in tree shipments every year) and sustainable. Okay, and I’ll be honest, I was excited to take pictures.
On the hunt
We disrupted Mila’s precious nap time to beat traffic and that resulted in a clingy ball of unhappiness, but Micah loved it. Super loved it. Our guide let Micah drag him all over the grounds searching for the perfect tree. All while answering his millions of questions on trees. He even showed him how his saw worked. And then there were rainbows dancing above the Oahu Christmas tree scene. And a fine mist that we pretended was snow. And candy canes. It was all a little bit magical. Someone can have our fake tree, we’re coming back here next year.
On the hunt
Disrupting Mila’s cherished nap time to ensure we beat the traffic had unexpected consequences. It turned her into a clingy ball of unhappiness. However, Micah, on the other hand, couldn’t have loved the experience more.
Our kind and patient tree guide indulged Micah’s curiosity, allowing him to lead the way all over the grounds in search of the perfect Oahu Christmas tree. In the midst of Micah’s never-ending stream of tree-related questions, the guide even took the time to demonstrate how his saw worked.
As we explored the Oahu Christmas tree scene, we were treated to the sight of rainbows dancing above, creating a magical atmosphere. A fine mist hung in the air, which we pretended was snow. To top it all off, there were candy canes and hot chocolate, adding to the enchantment of the moment.
This experience left us with one clear conclusion: Someone can have our fake tree, we’re coming back to Helemano Farms next year.
First candy cane at the Oahu Christmas tree farm. Mila said it was gross, but insisted on eating it anyways. She made this face the whole time.
