On the 10th of each month I post a snippet from our daily lives. It’s part of a project with other photographers and gives me the nudge I need to take photos of my own family. This March was … well, let’s call it an unusual month. I’m grateful for this project because the days passed in such a chaotic blur that I wouldn’t have picked up the camera and much of it would have slipped from memory. There was spring break, a fourth birthday celebration, colds which were followed by pneumonia and sleepless nights, Easter, travel, a trip to Disney’s Aulani Resort, and a hearty dose of panic trying to keep up with life in general. It felt like a marathon and I was both surprised and relieved to make it to the end of each day. Pictured are some of the slower moments starting with Micah.
Micah rarely slows down. He’s a constant flurry of motion and noise. He even thrashes about in his sleep. But on this day, for the briefest of moments, I was able to capture these. And I love them. The soft curve of his face reminds me that even though he’s the oldest, he’s still just a little guy.
This series was by special request. Booby bird and kiwi bird have been beloved treasures since he was a baby. I noticed the duo were getting threadbare and he suggested a special photo session. A boy and his birds.
Our first visit to Disney’s Aulani Resrot was a big success. We were skeptical because we’re more camping people than resort people, but the combination of Auntie’s Beach House, endless water fun, and the hunt for menehune can’t be beat. Micah proclaimed it “the best two days of my life!!” I highly recommend taking advantage of their kamaaina special.
And then there was this loveable girl who turned four. Equal parts sweet and silly.
The princess taking in the view at Aulani with her robes and morning Nutella.
She is so expressive and i’m always amazed at how she can waver between extreme emotions in the blink of an eye.
And they are best buddies (except when they’re not).

I love the moodiness of your lighting in the first set and all the emotion you capture, really!
