Where do people who live in Hawaii go for vacation? I get that question often. Truth is, our family doesn’t make it off the island nearly as much as we like and even then, it’s usually to visit family. One of the down sides to living in Hawaii is that we’re a bit stuck here. But we finally managed to sneak in a long overdue visit to a dear friend in San Diego. The visit somehow morphed into a road trip and then again into a camping road trip, which makes everything a lot more … interesting.
California is an amazingly diverse state. We started in Monterrey, camped our way down the Big Sur coast, and jumped over to Joshua Tree National Park before ending in San Diego. I thought I had made a somewhat reasonable plan, turns out it was a little ambitious. We were constantly moving, doing, exploring. After a week, we maxed out on our love of camping and the kids were just exhausted (Micah : “We’ve seen all of California. Let’s go home!”). We were able to recuperate in San Diego with great company and great food, before one last adventure – a trip to Disneyland.
The best part about traveling when you live in Hawaii is that it’s always exciting to leave and wonderful to return home.
The End. Next stop – Holland, May 2014.
Can you email me rates and availability for second week of October in Kailua? Thx
