Trying to find a nice park setting in Hawaii is no easy feat. If you want beautiful beaches or tropical rainforest, you have your pick. If you’re looking for a grassy field, however, you have to get creative. And lucky. All parks receive regular maintenance so what may have been a rustic, photogenic field can be transformed to clipped lawn overnight. Even more tragic is when they prune beautiful flowering trees and vines back to mere stumps. It makes me cringe.
Janelle is a Pinterest fan and fell in love with all the images of fall and fields on the mainland. This is our Hawaiian interpretation. Just replace fall leaves with bright bougainvillea. Throw in a pumpkin for good measure. However, the illusion of fall depended greatly on light. We needed that warm golden glow as the sun set over the Waianae Range to provide the full effect. I nervously checked the forecast daily before our session trying to interpret the nuances in wind and cloud cover.
Fortunately, we had sun. And a tiny spirited toddler and an even tinier dog. Ah little, Payton, what a great laugh! It was fun trying to keep up with him. With all the running and tickling and tossing of toddlers, i’m pretty sure we all slept well that night.
