The sun had just begun to peek over the horizon as we took our first steps onto the cool, shifting sand dunes. It was an unusual VOG morning with no wind. Haze hung in the air and moisture stuck to our skin. We settled down in the sand dunes to slowly wake up. Makapuu Beach was their family’s favorite beach. One they were very comfortable with, but maybe not quite this early in the morning.
Little Stella slowly began to perk up. She was a a super sweet, soft spoken little girl, but you couldn’t miss that hint of mischief in her eye. Before long she was jumping off rocks and pulling mom and dad into the water. As we swam with fish in the oversized tidepools, hang gliders circled over head. Dad is a hang glider himself and the cliffs over Makapuu are famous; attracting hang gliders from around the world. He reminisced about his own jumps from that spot as he splashed with his family. Big yawns ended our time together, but they would be back for more perfect beach days.
