Hauula makes for a stunning retreat from the real world. It’s nestled snug in the cool shadow of the Koolau’s but close enough to the ocean to feel the salt air stick your skin. Life moves slowly here. Cambria and Justin fell in love with this peaceful jungle and made the trip from Oregon to exchange vows in an intimate Hauula wedding ceremony. People often ask me if I photograph weddings. When they’re small, lovely affairs like this, I can’t help but say yes.
Gravel rumbled as I turned off the main road to the house. Greenery seemed to drip from every surface and a wisp of clouds overhead cooled the air. I was greeted with an enchanting vision of grandma snapping shots with her Kodak point-and-shoot film camera. Guests chatted and milled about, slowly reviving from naps following a long beach day. Tucked away in a cottage was the bride and her support team sharing happy tears and beers as she got ready. After a few musical mishaps, the ceremony began. The it was time for a quick stop at the beach for photos before dinner and dancing. Such a stunning place to get married!
