An Evening at the Ranch
Driven by a strong sense of wanderlust, we seized the opportunity presented by Gunstock Ranch’s kamaaina deals and embarked on a sunset horseback riding tour. During the pandemic, when options for kids’ activities were limited, our children had honed their riding skills, and they eagerly looked forward to this escape from the confines of the riding ring.
Arriving at Gunstock Ranch slightly ahead of schedule, we decided to enjoy some pre-tour fun at the free petting zoo. The day had seen its share of sibling squabbles, but the moment they stepped into the pen filled with goats and sheep, their moods transformed. They gave each animal a name, with one particularly affectionate lamb earning the moniker “Cow.” Our daughter, Mila, even hatched a plan to secretly bring Cow home with us.
As our designated tour time approached, the kids practically quivered with excitement, already on a first-name basis with their trail horses. When the moment finally arrived, they mounted their trusty steeds and explored the rolling hills with impeccable posture and focused determination. We meandered through tree-lined trails, encountering long-horned cows and glimpses of wild boars along the way. Throughout the journey, our kids engaged our patient and kind trail guide in nonstop conversation.
At the summit, we took a moment to relish the wide-open vistas and refreshing breezes before beginning our journey back. An hour and a half later, we arrived back at the starting point. While our legs did feel a bit wobbly, our sense of satisfaction was undeniable. Gunstock Ranch had provided the outdoor adventure we had yearned for, filling our need for open spaces. This unforgettable experience not only temporarily silenced our sibling squabbles but also allowed our family to immerse ourselves in the stunning beauty of the great outdoors.
