The Best Beach for Families
Okay, I know I’ve talked about Kailua Beach Park before over here and here, but right now, at this moment, it’s a particularly great spot for kids. Beach conditions are always changing as it shaped by sea and wind, but in this case, we have a team of diggers to thank. The city seems to be playing an ongoing game of sand chess, moving giant piles of sand here and there. They recently dredged the canal and moved some more sand around turning the funky, stagnant stream into a fresh playground.
So here’s what you have …
- steep sandbanks for running, rolling, or bodyboarding down
- fun waves in shallow water at the mouth of the canal
- fast-moving water into the canal, for a river rapid experience
- An eddy-created, protected swimming hole for babies and toddlers
Throw in a tire swing and some fishing nets and you have a big, happy beach party.
I can’t think of a more perfect way to spend the final week of summer break. Get out and have some fun!
