An Easy Hike on the Windward Side
Want some awesome views of Kaneohe Bay with little effort? Want to get the kids outside, but short on time? Head over to the Friendship Garden in Kaneohe for a wee hike that is perfect for the kids. It’s a mini network of trails less than a mile in length, complete with a tea house. I thought it was awesome that Micah kept calling it a coffee house. Definitely our child.
You can see lots of interesting plants along the trail. There is a bamboo grove, giant Cook pines, massive banyans, various funky plants (that is, of course, the technical term), and a single native – one baby ulei fern clinging to the side of the trail. It took us over an hour to hike, but that’s only because Micah requested a snack in the tea house (after hiking for oh, 2 minutes). That snack took at least 40 minutes.
Getting There
You can find the trailhead in the back of a nice little neighborhood (the first picture is the view from the road). Parking is limited to 2 or 3 cars, so you may want to go early. Oh, and some parts of the trail were a bit buggy. Now you’re all set. Grab the kids, bring a snack, sip some coffee in the tea house, and enjoy the views.

I’ve been on island for a couple of years and done a lot with my two little ones so far, but this is something we’ve not heard of yet and is definitely going on our list! Thanks for sharing and for such beautiful pictures! They are fabulous!
