Long flights with kids are never fun. Sure, there is usually a more festive vibe flying into Hawaii. Lots of Aloha wear and sandals in the crowd. A hum of excitement. But, you’re still stuck on a plane for six, seven, ten long hours. Now, add a handful of flight delays which result in an unplanned overnight in a sketchy hotel, and your vacation is not off to a good start. Jaime and her family were understandably a little frazzled when they finally touched down on the reef runway.
Their day started to improve when they were greeted at Aulani with chilled fruit water and impeccable service. A little time at the pool and they were in good spirits when we met for their sunset session. I had a surprise for them too. They were aching to catch a glimpse of a sea turtle in Hawaii and I found some for them. We eagerly made our way to the beach where dozens of turtle heads bobbed in the surface. It looked like a game of whack-a-mole as they surfaced for air. A couple scrambled higher onto the rocks to snatch mouthfuls of seaweed and we watched in silent awe.
Eventually, we headed back to the sand to run and splash and play games. These kids were completely on the same wave length; both overflowing with enthusiasm and giggles. It was amazing to see siblings that were such good buddies. We even go to end with a rainbow. This family vacation was looking up.
